Pioneer football started off the season with their first game against Hutchinson ending with a score of 38-14, for the first time in 19 years the football team won against Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Friday September 13 at Friends. Hoyt athletic field with a score of 34-0.

Kapaun and West have a bit of a history with the football games. 2000 was the last year West beat Kapaun, but this year they have broken their losing streak. “We came out knowing we haven’t won against Kapaun in a long time, we just came you know, to make history and we did,” said quarterback Jeremiah Brown.

With the defense not letting Kapaun score a single point the game ended with 34-0.“Our defense was phenomenal, we came out every series you know, with the mind set they wasn’t gonna score,” said Jeremiah.

The football team hasn’t won a game against Kapaun in 19 years, but with beating them and having many pioneers come out and support is fantastic. Even though the next few games they had weren’t the best.

Their most recent games were against Bishop Carroll, Northwest, and Dodge City. The scores were 7-34 against Bishop, 63-14 against Northwest and 14-36 against Dodge City.
