West High History Teacher, Micheal Alldaffer announced to all of his classes on March 5, 2021, that he will be leaving the United States for good.
He announced that he will be moving to Japan to teach “gifted education.”
“There was a job opportunity back in Japan that kind of came to my attention back in gifted education,” says Alldaffer “I sat down and talked with my wife and we agreed that this was what we wanted to do.”
Alldaffer has previously stated that he lived and taught in Japan as a civilian teacher before coming to West High.
“I came to West High from Japan, I’m leaving West High going back to Japan.” He says
Alldaffer has said that teaching gifted education is nothing new to him.
“I’ve taught gifted ed for 19 years, and I’ve taught third through twelfth grade gifted education.” says Alldaffer “But, I’m excited. I’m gonna go back into elementary gifted ed.”
Alldaffer has said that he’s taught for 25 years at several different high schools and middle schools and he says that West High has been his favorite school.
“I love the student’s here.” He says “The staff for the most part is professional and they work together, they communicate well, but the students are fantastic. I will miss the students at the school more than anything.”
